Hot Air Balloon Day

A lesser-known day globally observed on June 5 is the Hot Air Balloon Day. Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology to carry humans, with the first human flight taking place in November, 1783 in Paris, France. Prior to humans taking flight, three farm animals, which some sources say were a pig, duck, and a rooster, took to the sky in June, 1783. The flight lasted 10 minutes and the balloon went up approximately 6,000 feet. The balloon was created by the Montgolfer brothers out of sackcloth and paper. The fabric of modern air balloons usually consists of ripstop nylon and polyester.

World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. It is a global event led by the United Nations to encourage awareness and action to protect the environment. The day aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire people and governments to take action to protect the planet.

History

World Environment Day was started back in 1972. That's when the United Nations, a group of many countries working together, decided a special day was needed to raise awareness about environmental issues. Since then, the day has grown into a massive global event!

It began with the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 5th. This conference started with important talks about protecting the environment. To mark this event, the first World Environment Day was celebrated a year later, in 1973. Since then, it has been celebrated every year on June 5th.

Why is it important?

Raises Awareness: It helps people understand the importance of nature and the need to protect it.

Encourages Action: It motivates individuals, communities, and governments to take positive environmental actions.

Addresses Global Issues: It focuses on pressing environmental issues like pollution, climate change, deforestation, and wildlife conservation.

Promotes Sustainability: It encourages sustainable living and responsible use of resources.

Five eco-friendly ways to observe World Environment Day

Recycling

We can create a better environment to live and grow by reusing items several times, recycling and utilising them, and minimising the quantity of garbage generated in our daily lives.

Conserve water

We may preserve water by taking shorter showers, never leaving the tap open, replacing leaking pipes, and utilising water-efficient appliances.

Planting tree

If we start planting more trees, we can make the environment greener for all.

Eco-friendly transportation

For shorter distances, we can use bicycles. We can also use electric vehicles instead of regular ones to save our environment from pollution.

Environment awareness campaign

We can encourage people to promote eco-friendly practices like reducing plastic usage, conserving water, and using public transportation.
