Alfred Hitchcock, who passed away on 29 April 1980,
aged 80, was an English filmmaker known as the "Master of
Suspense," who directed over 50 films and earned 46 Academy Award
nominations. His films won six Oscars, though he never claimed the Best
Director trophy.
His most well-known films include Strangers on a
Train (1951), Dial M for Murder (1954), Vertigo (1958), Psycho (1960), and The
Birds (1963). Hitchcock's films have been noted for their distinctive
"Hitchcockian" style, including the use of camera movement to emulate
a person's gaze.
