Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin arrived
in India on November 29, 1961, as part of a goodwill tour,
approximately seven and a half months after his historic spaceflight. He
received a tumultuous welcome and large crowds turned up in Indian cities to
see the first human in space.
