Coal Miners' Day (India)

Every year on May 4, Coal Miners’ Day is observed in India to recognize the sacrifices and hard work of the coal miners. The day highlights the crucial role of coal miners in providing energy to cities, businesses, and households. It also raises awareness about the health, safety, and other challenges faced by people in the coal mining industry.

Our industries and lighting are powered by coal and utilized in the production of cement, steel, and electricity. However, obtaining this important resource is not simple. Coal miners put their health and safety at stake while working underground in hazardous conditions. The purpose of Coal Miners’ Day is to express gratitude for their commitment and hard labour.
